About Dr. Duque

Dr Duque completed residency training in Psychiatry at the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. She received the Chairman’s Award for Superior Performance in Psychiatry and was appointed Chief Resident. She established the Crisis Intervention Team and cofounded the Resident Support Group. Dr. Duque was invited to join the faculty at SUNY Upstate College of Medicine and was appointed Assistant Professor in Psychiatry and the Medical Director of the SUNY Upstate Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. She moved to Chicago and was appointed faculty as Assistant Clinical Professor at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. At Loyola, she spearheaded the first Residency Wellness Program and served as its first Director. She supervised residents in both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology clinics and created the outpatient psychiatry elective for medical students interested in psychiatry. She remains an Affiliate Assistant Professor at Loyola.

Dr Duque has a special clinical interest in loss and grief, depression, anxiety and cognitive disorders, and trauma. She also treats burnout, depression and anxiety in the medical professional in both individual and process group settings. Her treatment approach is combined psychodynamic and medical, with focus on attachment, development, biological background, current stressors, and the interplay of these factors in one’s life. A shared understanding of this in a safe treatment relationship is key to her patients gaining insight and working towards lasting and meaningful recovery. This is what she strives for with each of her patients.
