About Dr. Brar

Dr. Brar received her Bachelors in Psychology (2000) from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. She later received her medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine (2005). Dr. Brar completed her residency training in Psychiatry at the State University of New York in Syracuse, NY and at Columbia University in Manhattan, NY (2009).

Dr. Brar has worked in outpatient and inpatient psychiatric settings since 2009 in New York, Washington, and Indiana, until finding herself at home in Illinois (2013). She co-founded Psychiatry Physicians Group, LLC in 2021 with her State University of New York colleagues and close friends Dr. Kim Duque and Dr. Evan Deranja.

What shapes her approach to individuals is her interest in and training in psychodynamic therapy, psychopharmacology, neuromodulation and holistic/integrative medicine (which are proven alternative therapies to medications). This approach allows for a compassionate and comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and collaborative treatment plan for individuals under her care. Authenticity and empathy are cornerstones in every interaction, while being mindful of one’s life experiences, relationships, spirituality, as well as psychological and biological factors. Dr. Brar aspires to offer treatments that are at the cutting edge of psychiatry today, and tailored directly for her patients on a case by case basis.

Dr. Brar believes healing occurs when a trusting and therapeutic relationship is developed between two people - and her work is centered around honoring this sacred alliance.
